Hi everyone! I'm planning to automate my windows and doors at home and am considering using linear actuators. But I am not well acquainted with these machines. What are the parameters that I need to take into account in selecting an actuator in a home project? Does length of stroke and force matter? What is the more preferable power source 12V or 24V? And are there any other options to take into account such as waterproofing and dust protection during installation in the vicinity of a window or outside? Are electric actuators more convenient to deal with than hydraulic or pneumatic actuators?

Ciao a tutti!
Make sure that the actuator is compatible with your controller. Certain equipments might be manually controlled with special interfaces which you may need to automate with the help of intelligent systems. Mini or micro actuators are also appropriate to small doors or windows; they are small and quite silent. You should also ensure that your actuator is able to withstand the conditions of the temperature of your installation.
The electric linear actuators are the most suitable in a home project. They spring in simply, and they do not need extra pipes or pumps, such as hydraulics or pneumatics. These key parameters include load requirement, stroke length and speed. The load must be the weight of the moving door or window and the stroke length must be equal to the distance that the actuator has to travel. The power supply depends on the power source that you are available: 12V is simpler to operate with automotive or solar systems, whereas with 24V, it will supply more power and be applicable to heavier doors. Moreover, it is important to take into consideration the IP protection rating in case the actuator will be located outside or in the vicinity of windows to avoid any damage caused by the moisture or dust.
