Hi everyone! I’m planning a move soon, and one of my biggest worries is the really heavy stuff I own – like a piano and a big marble table. I know trying to move these on my own or even with a couple of friends could end badly, either damaging the items or hurting someone. Has anyone here dealt with moving very heavy objects before? Did you use special equipment or a professional service? Any tips would be much appreciated.

Moving really heavy items safely requires proper preparation and the right equipment. Start by planning your route ahead of time—remove any obstacles, secure rugs, and make sure doorways or hallways are clear. Use tools like dollies, hand trucks, lifting straps, or furniture sliders to reduce strain and make movement smoother. If the item can be disassembled into smaller parts, do so to make it lighter and easier to handle. Always wear gloves and closed-toe shoes for extra protection.
When lifting manually, use safe body mechanics: bend your knees, keep your back straight, and lift with your legs rather than your back. Avoid twisting your body while carrying heavy loads, and instead pivot with your feet. For very bulky or extremely heavy items, don’t attempt to move them alone ask for help or hire professional movers. Taking these precautions reduces the risk of injury and damage to your belongings.
I had a similar challenge when I moved last year – I had a huge antique cabinet and a treadmill that I couldn’t even imagine getting through the door without help. After doing some research, I found a team that specializes in these kinds of moves: https://5points-moving.com/service/moving-heavy-items/ moving heavy objects. They brought all the right equipment, like straps and dollies, and had a crew who really knew what they were doing. They managed to move everything without a single scratch and without damaging the walls or floors. It saved me from what would’ve been a complete nightmare if I tried to do it myself.
